Welcome to the Beaches of Nosara!

The Beach and The Village

Playas de Nosara is one of the oldest ex-patriot beach communities in Costa Rica, and residents are proud to have achieved a natural and inviting place to live in harmony with the surroundings. Many visitors to the area never venture beyond the beaches, restaurants and bars near Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada. However, travel a little further down the dusty road and you will find the village of Nosara – part of your real Costa Rica experience.

Many of the families who live in Nosara can trace their heritage back to the Choretega Indians who settled this area circa 700 – 1300 AD. Here the faces reflect their Indian heritage, not those of the Spanish conquerors. At that time the settlements were centered between the Rio Nosara and the Rio Montana, occassionally spreading out into surrounding mountain areas. Today the pueblo of Nosara sits just north of the Rio Nosara and is characterized by the centrally located soccer field – an absolute MUST for any self-respecting pueblo since soccer or futbol is the national sport.
